I presume he had a bike to get to work unless he walked.

34 Kirkby Street is a 10 minute walk from the site of the Sheaf Wood Works, and 38 Tealby Street a 13 minute walk. (from google maps) .

Lincoln Tramways Company provided a horse-tram service along Newark Road and High Road, from 1882 to 1905.
It was replaced, along the same route, by Lincoln Corporation Tramways between 1905 and 1929.

Hi and welcome to rootchat ;D

You have lots of great answers and leads you can follow.

Google "Lincoln Townscape Assessment Sincil Bank North Inherited" it will show you a pdf and it is from http://heritageconnectlincoln.com/ ( although I can't find it by going onto the website) it tells you about the exact area your ancestor lived during the time he lived there and the development, plans etc. He lived next to Sincii bank, not far from the river Witham, https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/canal-and-river-network/river-witham so  and today a rich agricultural county with lots of rivers/canals where boat building and engineering work was done, so for example there were direct grain barges from Lincoln several times a day going from several places in Lincolnshire directly to the port at Grimsby and also to the rest of the country

Thanks Stan; great. I presume Grandad and the family were in rented accommodation at both Kirkby and Tealby sts. Can you tell me by chance if these were two up two down places - terraced housing?
The old map I looked at indicated that terraced housing was along the road?
