Hi ,

Could it be Murcar , Old Machar ?
There is a Beattie family there on the 1871 Census -
Rachel Beattie 55 widow
James Beattie 29 son , farmer 52 acres

Thanks for that I don't think this is the same folks although they could be related. Murker could be colloquial spelling I guess. The family I am trying to sort out is on the following head stone from St Nicholas Churchyard in the centre of Aberdeen

Wonder if that James Beattie(married to Margaret Keith) married again to Rachel Brown in 1839 Old Machar?

I think that James Beattie died in 1866 , age 78 , Old Machar.

Scotlandspeople has Wills for James Beattie(1866) and Rachel Brown(1888) , North Murcar Parish of Old Machar.

I think ev may be right - the 1841 census for Old Machar has James Beattie, 50 farmer, Mains of Murcar/Balgownie Es; plus Rachel Beattie, 25; and a 1 year old child. Curiously, by 1851, James seems to have lost some years and has been enumerated as 43  ;D, but by 1861, he's back at aged 74...

And there is Murcar Links Golf Course - as others have said, I think Murker is Murcar, just north of Aberdeen.
