Bankruptcy filed February 1862 so their life is collapsing around them .in April 1862 an order of discharge was given .
The family business has been advertising in local papers but it seems could not pull in enough New business.

Hello CarolW, DavidJP, chempat, Girl Guide, Isobelw, and Tassie.
Thankyou for all the incredible information you have discovered for me and as you will understand i need time to absorb it all.
I had bought the 1860 marriage certificate some time ago and  it clearly ties Mary Hannah to the 1861 census
"Walmsley family" record. I had satisfied myself that the 17 year old Mary is a sister of John junior and not his wife.
I'm pretty sure that Mary Hannah is the Mary, age 19, a boarder, born Manchester in 1842 and residing in Radcliffe in the 1861 census.
I need a day or so to get to grips with all your info and will get back to you.
Regards and thankyou all.

Good morning Tassie.
You mention that John died in 1863 which is significant to my question. If he did then Mary was free to marry again. l had seen that death in the GRO UK indexes but was unsure if it was him because there were 14 John Walmsley births in 1840 and that death was in Liverpool.
Were you able to establish that the death was for my chap?
I think I should buy the certificate otherwise.
Regards.

Hi kiwigeoff,

I would agree with you that Mary A, the boarder is more likely to be your Mary Hannah.

The Walmsley family are at 1851 2215/186/24 and there is a daughter Mary.

There are strong possibilities for John in later censuses - all showing him as 'married' but no sign of Mary H.

1871 3954/119/41
He is a boarder in the household of Margaret Kay and is a Machine Operator.

1881 3863/121/26
He is a brother in law to John Burghall who married Mary A Walmsley

1891 3131/84
He is an Inmate in Bury Union Workhouse and is an Iron Turner

Hi Heywood... I'm not sure now on the 1891 John.
Let me set it out.
1891 ....John Burghall and Mary nee Walmsley have a daughter Elizabeth W Burghall b 1853.
1901... Elizabeth Burghall is niece to Elizah Walmsley and his wife Annie .
Back to 1871 Elizah Walmsley is son to James and Eliz Walmsley.

I know its late but have I missed something.
