A little info for you:

Marriage details for Ebenezer and Elizabeth:

Church: St Nicolas Newbury
Date: 8th October 1795
Groom: Ebenezer Cannings (of this parish)
Bride: Elizabeth Liddiard (of this parish)
Both signed their names
Witnesses: Samuel Purdue and John Cooper (think both had links to the church as they were also witnesses to other marriages on the same page)

There was this burial:

Place: St Nicolas Newbury
Date: 25th March 1836
Ebenezer Cannings aged 64

which fits with the Ebenezer in the 1815 census, aged 43 (so born approximately 1772)

I checked to see if there was a baptism at St Nicolas for Ebenezer from 1769-1780 but did not find one but did find this one which could be your Elizabeth:

Date: 30th September 1774
Name: Elizabeth Liddiard
Daughter of William and Eleanor Liddiard

There was also this marriage for an Ebenezer Cannings in 1780:

Church: St Nicolas Newbury
Date: 19th March 1780
Groom: Ebenezer Cannings (Widower of this parish)
Bride: Millicent Usher (Widow of this parish)
By Licence.

Did not find a previous marriage for this Ebenezer.

There is this burial which could be him:

Place: Lower Meeting House Newbury
Date: 16th January 1822
Name: Ebenezer Canning (no s) aged 76

and this burial for Millicent:

Place: St Nicolas Newbury
Date: 19th May 1832
Name: Mellicent Cannings (widow) aged 79

Hope this helps.

Chris

This is really great. Thank you. This is exactly what I was after. There is an Ebenezer Cannings who was baptised at Boston, Lincolnshire whose parents were Ebenezer and Elizabeth. This fits in with a marriage at St Boltoph the previous year. The 1780 marriage looks like it is a second marriage for the same person. Given the differing locations I need to be sure that I am not jumping to conclusions.

Yes this looks like the first marriage.  I need to find some information that would confirm this. Ebenezer (jnr) may have been baptised at Boston in Lincolnshire. Possibly this is the home parish of Elizabeth Overton.
