Bank of England
« on: Tuesday 19 September 17 12:40 BST (UK) »
Hi

Just wondering if there are any surviving records for individuals who held accounts with the Bank of England in the 18th century? My ancestor died in 1764.  There was a dispute over his estate so it went to Chancery.  These documents, which I recently downloaded from the NA, revealed that he had an account with the said bank.

FindMyPast has a collection called Bank Of England Wills Extracts 1717-1845.

The records vary in content, but typically it has records of the probate of people who held Bank of England Annuities.

You might find record of the types and amounts of annuities held, sometimes an extract from the will of the holder, and details of the disposition of the funds.

If you register you will be able to search for the name before you spend any money.
