Deciding which is the right Elizabeth Roberts
« on: Tuesday 19 September 17 17:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm hoping someone with more privileged access to death records might be able to help me with a little problem. I'm trying to trace my Great Auntie Elizabeth Roberts (Nee Fone) born in 1886 in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. I have almost all the details about her life up until the point she was married as Roberts is a fairly common surname compared to Fone.

As bad luck would have it, there happen to be 2 death records for an Elizabeth Roberts born 1886 registered in Stoke-on-Trent and I have absolutely no way of telling which is the right one!

The two records are as follows:

Elizabeth Roberts: registered 1st quarter 1957 aged 71, volume 9B Page 567 Line 110

Elizabeth Roberts: registered 1st quarter 1967 aged 81, volume 9B Page 66 Line 21

If anyone can tell me which one was the one born Elizabeth Fone I'd be very grateful as it would save me having to buy both certificates to check!

Regards,

Ian Fone

You cannot look at death certificates without purchasing them.  Have you tried to find their burials

Was her husband called John?  If so she is on the 1939 which shows her full date of birth living in Longton, Stoke on Trent.

I haven't been able to find any burial information. I did find a possible lead of a Roberts buried in 1957 very near to the grave of my Great Grandad which lead me to believe it could be her. Unfortunately it was a red herring.

Her husband was definitely John Roberts. The probate is interesting, she did have 8 children so Thomas Roberts could be one of them.

Indeed she did have a son named Thomas born 1919 so that sounds promising. Thanks! You mentioned her exact date of birth was shown on the census. Did you note it down at all?

Thanks.

Brilliant! Incidentally- where are you getting the 1939 census info from? I thought the 100 year rule applied to censuses?

This is from the 1939 Register - have to be careful about how much detail to provide.
e.g. Free information only.
