IPad Instagram problem

Instagram has stopped working on my iPad mini. The icon has gone dark and shows 'waiting' when tapped. Efforts to delete fail.
Any ideas?  I am not technically minded so plain English please.

It may be stuck waiting on an update to complete - check the updates section in the App store.

Thanks;  it is showing in the list of updates but when I tap the 'open' box nothing happens. I'll try it again tomorrow.

When I had an App that was stuck on loading but wouldn't delete I did this and it deleted it so that I could download it again

Tap Settings.
Tap General.
Tap Storage & iCloud.
Under the Storage section, tap Manage Storage.
Scroll through the app list and tap on the app you want to delete.
Now tap the Delete App button.
