Wooooo!!! Go team!

I'm awestruck by the success of this investigation.
Thank you all.

Wife of 47 years implies she survived to 1999 (or close); age 97.
Her husband outlived her from the sound of it, and into the nineties as well.

What a colourful life.

A trip from Penang to London in 1932 implies there was a bit of to-and-fro between her London life and her Penang life.

In case anyone's interested, I married a Malay woman in Singapore in the 1990s and for a while assumed I was the first Coulson to have done so. Discovering that someone had beaten me to that honour by sixty years was quite a surprise. Hence my curiosity.

Oh yes... I had a question about the divorce files on TNA referred to by an earlier post (sorry, I can't scroll back and see the writers name as I create this reply). Why is it that just 0.2% of divorce files after the war years survive?

It looks like she died in March 1976 so 47 appears to be incorrect. More like 29 years.

I think it might be due to the number of divorces increasing and only ones that set a legal precedent were kept. All that would be available for the others would be the Decree Absolute, which does not give much in the way of information.

The Islamic divorce process does not necessarily follow the UK legal route. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divorce_in_Islam

Updates noted.... thanks again.

I used the intervening time to follow Violet's ancestry back, ultimately to a William Coulson born in Whickham Durham in 1804, to George Coulson and Esther Shield. None of these people are relatives of mine, although my people came from very close by and there were a few Shields in my Coulson line too. This would suggest a possible connection in the 1700s but that's so far back I lose interest in the chase. I'm happy to conclude that Violet and I have the same surname but no more.

Since none of the online articles have any of this data, it is likely that you folks are the first ever to research it and compile it in one spot.  It would be a waste for it not to be posted somewhere. Wikipedia are very fussy about alterations to their articles so I don't want to do that. But maybe some other site would be suitable.

Wikipedia aren't that fussy about alterations- my cousin's wife had a page there about our uncle with LOTS of errors and I was able to correct them without any problem  ;)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
