Germany - Detlef Heinrich (Henry) Brix
« on: Friday 22 September 17 10:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to find information on Detlef Heinrich (Henry) Brix.

He was born Abt 1843 in Schleswig, Germany.

Mother: Sophia Cantensen (not 100% if the last name is spelt correctly)
Father: Hans Brix

Immigrated to Victoria, Australia in Aug 1865 (not 100% sure this is correct still needs to be confirmed)

I have attached the married between Detlef and his wife Jannet (Jessie) McRae

If anyone can assist me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Kerryn

There is an article in the Victoria Australia Gazettes for a Detley Heinrich Brix being charged with deserting his wife in Melbourne in March 1875.. Says he formerly kept the Bulls Head Hotel Elizabeth Street Melbourne and has a brother in Melbourne date 7 Jan 1877

There are also a few records for a Henry Brix applying for Publican Licence Broken Hill NSW
Might be a possibility

Rosie

Hi Rosie,
Thank you for your reply.

This would make sense as on the marriage cert it says he is a hotel keeper. Hopefully, I will be able to find something from that.

Thanks,
Kerryn

The passenger list for the Malakoff dep London for Melbourne in May 1865, arrived August 1865, includes Peter (26) and Detlef (24) Brix, both labourers, both listed as Irish.

Hi Shaun,
Thank you for the information. This is strange because on the marriage cert of Detlef it says that he was born in Germany.

Do you have any idea why this is?

Thanks

ok.
Also, did you look at the marriage certificate? I am not convinced I have got their mothers maiden name correct. What do you think it is?

Thanks

I think the mother's name is Carrtenssen, possibly a misspelling of  Carstenssen or Carterssen.
