If your local library has access to Findmypast you can see all the many and varied newspaper reports there. It was clearly quite a cause célèbre  :o

Would you be kind enough to give me details of other newspaper reports so I can get copies from the local repositories as I do not have a subscription with the newspaper sites.

Hi elliven  :)

There are so many reports....

Here's a suggestion: go to https://search.findmypast.co.uk/search/british-newspapers
(this sounds more tortuous than it actually is  ::) )

First of all select the date (1850 - 1899) from the side panel. A new page will appear.

Now select 1850 - 1859. A new page will appear.

Now at the top of the page enter 'Teasdale' in the 'last name' pane and 'drovers' in the keyword pane.

This should refine the selection to 62 hits, very many of which, as you will see, refer to this case.

Obviously you can't see the actual reports, as you need a subscription. But now you should be able to see from which newspapers they are taken, and carry on from there.

Hope this is of help.

Hello JenB

Many thanks for the above information and for directing me to Findmypast.  After your last message I took out a one month subscription to Findmypast.  This was the best £10 I have ever spent!  I have found all the newspaper reports and spent most of last night reading them!  Now I will follow your advice on the Teasdale/Drovers part and see what else comes to light.

Thanks again
Elliven

You could try cross-referencing it in different ways, just to see if it brings up any more articles, for instance try Teasdale, keyword Wailes or Redwell.

I have been idly wondering if Wailes was related to the celebrated Newcastle-born stained glass artist and manufacturer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Wailes

Make sure that you have unticked the auto renew box for your FindMyPast subscription.

In case you can't find it - Go to 'My Account'  (top right hand corner)
Select 'personal details'   - Untick Auto renew subscription.
Check again nearer the expiry date of your months sub in case it has reverted  ::)
