Mill End
« on: Saturday 23 September 17 03:37 BST (UK) »
Just looking at an extract of my GGF Robert Watson’s 1901 census and his address is listed as 41 Mill End, Liverpool. Looking at the 1901 Street maps of Liverpool it doesn’t exist then. Same with Stitt and Atkinson Sts their residences in the 1911 census. I’m wondering if this is just misreading the handwriting of Mile End? It still exists but somewhat truncated of its former self

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

FindMyPast transcribes the address as 41 Mile End and it does look correct - For Robert Watson b 1869 Liverpool with wife Ellen

Thank you Kay.
I hope to get a copy of the 1901 census entry to have a look at it. I do have the 1911. As to the street, heaven knows where or what it may be?
Regards
Tom

Thanks once again. I’ve just been looking at that myself and am almost convinced that it’s Mile End as the fourth letter doesn’t have the full height to be another ‘L’ I think

Kay

Added - Stitt Street is several streets to the east
