If this is Sophia's death cert it could possibly indicate the name of her children.

I don't recall if it also shows whether living or deceased.

Yes, Essie, but Frederick died in 1952, so I doubt Mary was the informant for the death record. It doesn't mean that Mary called herself Polly.

Even in the newspaper apology it could have been Frederick just using Polly to represent her as witness.

My father had pet names for his mother that I never heard any other family members use.

Purchasing a transcript of his marriage cert may be useful.

It seems Dee is basing her assumption that Mary used the names Polly and Molly on the registrations of deaths of her children. These children were all married so unlikely that Mary was the informant. It's is more likely the spouses of the children. I certainly doubt that Mary was alive in 1965. ;)

I assume Mary's family would have known if Mary had a 'pet' name?  Sometimes an informant - be it spouse or grandchildren - don't necessarily know or ever heard the registered name of the deceased.

well i guess i will never know what happened to mary jeffery, molly or polly,

Try contacting the council - ksc@kempsey.nsw.gov.au - to see who holds the Frederickton Cemetery register. She may be buried there.

Also, ask them to check West Kempsey Cemetery where her husband is buried.
