If that is Pat's death in 2009 hasn't her daughter got a copy of her mothers death cert showing the names of Pat's parents and in particular - her mothers maiden name

Also - if Pat was born 1922 then her parents marriage was before that date

Flagging possible birth reg if your friend's mother was born Greenock

Greenock East 1921 Patricia McLaughlin
Greenock West 1924 Patricia Murray McLaughlin
Greenock West 1925 Patricia Louisa McLaughlin

She might well have married and died outwith Scotland so we really need more info.

The person that Monica found was also born Aberdeen.

You don't  say whether you have James before his WW1 record, so here are some to be going on with ~

Birth Registration in Greenock for James  circa 1895

1894
Greenock East
James McLachlan

Greenock West
James McLachlan
James McDonald Mclaughlin

1895
Greenock West
James Michael McLachlan

There are 4 James Mclaughlin/McLachlan on the 1901 in Greenock that would fit these. Another born circa 1893.

Hi all
Here is an update of what I have been able to find out.  Gwynfryn (Gwyn) Owen Griffiths joined the RN in 1939 aged 18.  Stationed at Clyde, he met Patricia Louise McLaughlin in 1942 at a dance in Greenock Town.  Post war, c1946 they married in Glasgow registry office and briefly lived in north Devon before moving back to Brithdir, Glamorgan in 1959.  They celebrated 60 years anniversary in 2006 Gwyn and Pat both passed away in 2009.

Hope that helps

anything and everything to do with the village of Brithdir, near New Tredegar in Gwent.

So have you looked for a marriage on Scotlands People for Gwyn and Patricia to determine her parents names - particularly her mothers name and maiden name?

Birth entry for a Patricia Louisa McLaughlin born 1925 in Greenock West Ref 564/2 576, as mentioned by Gadget earlier.

Monica

Added: Marriage in 1946, Blythswood Glasgow - ref 644/8 671

Patricia Louisa MCLAUGHLIN and Gwynfryn Owen Griffiths

Both certs would need to be ordered as they are outside the period you can view online.

A possible sister for Patricia? All events in Greenock:

1930 - birth of a Mabel McLaughlin
1952 - marriage of a Mabel McLaughlin to a Thomas McGinty Gavin
1987 - death of a 56yr old Mabel McLaughlin/Gavin

Public tree giving James's parents as George McLaughlin (1867- ?) and Janet McDonald (1869-1951).  You'll have to check this out to be sure it's correct. Maybe you could check the 1901 and 1911 census for the family  :)

...a little more for me until you guys confirm through certs for Patricia.

I don't think her mother was called Mabel. Maybe the name was for a sister as showing above? Mabel's death has her with a mother's maiden name of Drysdale.

A Margaret Don Drysdale/McLaughlin died in Greenock in 1972, aged 75.

I also have a question mark as to whether Patricia's father was James...could be a John.

A John McLaughlin married a Margaret Don Drysdale in Greenock in 1924. This cert can be viewed online...but if you I would suggest to the person you are helping, that the best place to start is from her mother's registrations.
