Peter Warren Senior
« on: Sunday 24 September 17 14:15 BST (UK) »
Hello There,

I am trying to find a burial for the above person. He was one of my 7x Great Grandad's.
His Son, Peter Warren junior, was one of my 6x Great Grandad's. Peter Warren junior was baptised on the 24th of May 1747, in Stockport:
" Peter, son of Peter Warren and Ann, his Wife of Stockport. Was baptised the 24th day of May, 1747".  From: "England, Cheshire Parish Registers, 1538-2000,"

From what I could find via Family search and Find My Past, Peter Junior had two siblings:
"Davenport, son of Peter Warren, and Ann, his Wife, of Heaton Norris. Baptised 16th Dec 1750" From: "England, Cheshire Parish Registers, 1538-2000," Peter was also baptised at St. Mary, Stockport.

The last of Peter junior's siblings, I can find is "Fanney". She was also baptised at St. Mary, Stockport:
"Fanney, Daughter of Peter Warren, and Ann, his Wife, of Heaton Norris. Baptised 19th Dec."
(England, Cheshire Parish Registers, 1538-2000).

I can't seem to find anymore siblings of Peter Warren junior.

Anyway, I knew that Peter junior's mother's name was Ann, so I tried to find a marriage for Peter Warren senior. I did find a marriage of a Peter Warren marrying an Ann Knight at Bowdon, near Manchester. I found this on "Find My Past."
That was the only marriage between a Peter Warren and an Ann, that I could find in the area around the years just before Peter Warren junior was baptised.

I then tried to find a death for Peter Warren senior in Stockport. I have found a Peter warren senior, but I am not sure if it is the one that I am looking for:

I found a Will on "Find My Past" for a Peter Warren. The Probate year of the Will is 1790, as shown on the website. The actual Will is dated the 16th of September 1789.

In this Will Peter Warren senior mentions his son: "Peter Warren of Stockport". But this Peter Warren also mentions: "his dear Wife Nancy", and his son John Warren: Warren Peter 1790 Cheshire Wills And Probate Cheshire, England:
https://search.findmypast.co.uk/results/united-kingdom-records-in-birth-marriage-death-and-parish-records?firstname=peter&firstname_variants=true&lastname=warren&yearofdeath=1789&yearofdeath_offset=2&keywordsplace=stockport

This Peter Warren senior was a: "Silk Throwster".
When my Peter Warren junior got married, at Mancherster Cathedral in 1770, his occupation was a Linen Weaver, and was put down as being of the town of Heaton Norris.

The problem is that I cannot find a record anywhere of a Peter Warren getting married to someone with the name of Nancy. I think that this Peter Warren writing his Will, was buried on the 10th of November 1789 in Stockport. There was a Nancy Warren "a Widow" who was buried in Stockport in 1799. So I can't quite match up the Peter Warren Senior from his Will, as being my Peter Warren senior.

I knew that Peter warren senior's Wife was called Ann. I did find a burial for an Ann Warren in Stockport on Find My Past dated the 3rd of June 1766. But according to the original register on Find My Past, this Ann was a Widow.
But I can't find a burial in Stockport for a Peter Warren dated between 1755 - 1766.

If anyone has any information at all regarding the above, it would be gratefully accepted.

Thank you very much.  :) ;)

Hi

Ann is a variant of Nancy - you could be on the right track

Right, Thank you once again,

That did actually cross my mind, but I wasn't sure. And if there was a baptism for a John Warren (If I've read it right on that Peter's Will) being the son of a Peter and an Ann/ Nancy in the Stockport area, it might make much more sense.  :)

Both occupations are quite similar

Linen weaver - speaks for itself

Silk throwster - a throwster was someone who twists silk fibres into thread :)

Yes. That is exactly what I thought: The occupations seemed very similar.
It also might have been a big coincidence if there was more than one: " Peter Warren, of Stockport, Son of Peter warren. " in the same general area around the same time.
But then I could be wrong.... :) ;)

I'm curious about the couple giving the name Davenport to one of their children, given the frequency of the surname in Cheshire.

What if there was a record transcribed wrongly - look at the entry for the 25th August 1747

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=gbprs%2fchs%2f4018555%2f00523&parentid=gbprs%2fm%2f737213301%2f3&highlights=%22%22

I can't find the marriage to check  ???

EDIT: I'VE FOUND THE LICENCE - the above couple from your post seem more likely

Unfortunately I cant check the 25th of August 1747 entry on Find My Past. I don't subscribe to Find My Past. I view records for free whenever I visit the library.
So I can't see what you're able to view I'm afraid, and don't know what you mean regarding finding a marriage to check.  :-\

Hello again,

Are you referring to the marriage between a Peter Warren and an Ann Knight, dated the 5th of December 1741, at Bowdon, near Manchester?
When I viewed this at the Library, the writing seemed quite hard to read. I think it said that this Peter Warren was a: "Gentleman."  :)

I'll explain - There was a marriage licence between a Ann Davenport & Peter BARON in 1747 - it was just a transcript - but I've seen the actual licence and he sighns as Baron - so your couple seem correct.

And I would say that the marriage you have and the Will are from the same man - look at the signatures from the licence and his Will in 1790
