I'll explain - There was a marriage licence between a Ann Davenport & Peter BARON in 1747 - it was just a transcript - but I've seen the actual licence and he sighns as Baron - so your couple seem correct.

And I would say that the marriage you have and the Will are from the same man - look at the signatures from the licence and his Will in 1790

Much obliged,

Thank you once again,
Yes, the two signatures do look really quite similar. The signature from the 1789 Will is obviously weaker and fainter than the "flourish" on the 1741 marriage licence. Haha!  :) ;)

When I was last at the Library, I downloaded the original image of the Will from 1789.
Having another look at it, I'm pretty certain one line reads:
"my loving son, Peter warren of Stockport, Weaver for his good behaviour to me in my lifetime."

Hi

It does say that doesn't it. It looks like Peter received the bulk of his estate, rents arising from the property to maintain his mother/wife (Nancy) and himself, and then after her death he could sell.

I think I've read somewhere when a token shilling was given as a bequest (to John) it could mean that they had already benefited from the estate prior to the testators death.

Yes,

This John Warren was only mentioned in one line of that will.  :)

Wonder where Peter & Ann were prior to Peter jnr. being baptised, there are a few years there where I suspect John could have been born. :)

I did find this baptism at St. James Didsbury, in 1744 on Family Search. It just says on the transcription that the father's name was Peter Warren. But it isn't that far from Stockport:
