I am searching for information about, Johan Peter Bygdén (Byggdin). Born in 1885, Byske, Sweden.
Before emigration his name is spelled Per Johan Bygdén. He was my fathers grandmothers couisin (Annette Kristina Bygdén, 1885).
Johan Peter Byggdin settled down in Saskatchewan.
Best regards

Hello Linus...welcome to RootsChat,

John's obituary is in the Grandview Exponent, Dec 2 1981.  Luckily it has lots of information - including dates :) :)

John Peter Byggdin was born in Byske on Aug 25, 1885.  He died Nov 12, 1981.  He came to Sioux Falls, North Dakota with his parents on July 8 1893.  In July 1906, he moved to Craik, Saskatchewan where he filed on a homestead.  (so, you should be able to find him in the library and archives Canada homestead database).  On March 31 1914, he married Nellie Opan Smith of Eyebrow.  They had 4 sons and 1 daughter.  In 1932, they moved to Yorkton.  In 1936 they went to Grandview Manitoba.  They continued to farm until the death of his wife on Sept 8 1939.   He sold the farm, moved to Moose Jaw, and married Elva Lois Tisdale of Estevan.  After she died (no date given) he stayed in Moose Jaw, then moved to Melfort to live with his son Ernest.  Then moved to the Melfort Pioneer Lodge in 1967.  At the age of 82, he visited Sweden and other countries in Europe.  (Must be when your photo was taken.  If he was 82, that would have been around 1967).  The four sons are Ernest (wife Adeline) of Melfort, Ralph (wife Joyce) of Saskatoon, Wallace (wife Beth) of Wawota, Merle (wife Norma) of Edmonton.  His daughter is L* (husband Melvin Scott) of Melfort.   He was predeceased by 3 brothers, 3 sisters and one grandson.  He is survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

There is a notice in the same paper of the Sale of the Grandview farm in 1939 (after John's wife died).   The location of the farm was N.E. 17-25-24, 4 miles west, 1 mile south of Grandview.  Sale was on Oct 20 1939.  He had several horses and several milking cows.  Also - lots of farm machinery.  The house contents are also listed.

Western Land Grant to John Peter Byggdin - the Saskatchewan farm

https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/land/land-grants-western-canada-1870-1930/Pages/item.aspx?IdNumber=131662&

See the Description of the Western Canada Land System - link is in the grey bar on the left of the page.  This will show you how to locate the farm using the section, township, range numbers.  If you need help, there are people here on the Canada board who understand this system really well (not me, unfortunately :'()
