If they are the two you named earlier - Thomas McDermott and Mary Donohoe, it looks as though you may have  to look in US for further information as per aghadowey' posts.

It still seems a bit unlikely for him to be born in US but I suppose it is possible.
Did he also mention Derrycassan or Bawnboy on the certificate?
What was his father's occupation on the certificate?

Yes, the 1868 marriage record confirms he is from the townland of Derricassan and she from Gurteen. His father, Edward, is deceased but was a bailiff.

I was thinking that if he was in US, it would be a more industrialised occupation, that's all.

Do you have Thomas and Mary in the censuses - I assume you do because you say you have most records.
