Hi

I am hoping someone can help me with this extract from the will of Luce Tomson. I am looking for some clarification on the section between where it says "Item" at the top and the same word at the bottom. In particular I am unsure of the name of the person named as executor, it looks like William Elwye or Elvye possibly but I am unsure of the relationship to Luce.

Many thanks

Matt

... Item and for the due
and true payment of all debts and legacies and performanc(e)
of this my testament and last will I doe constitute ordaine
and make my hole and sole Executor of the same my loving
nevie Willia(m) Elvye of sellendg: Item ...

nevie/neuie = nephew.
I think it's probably Elvye, but (as you say) Elwye is also possible.

Thanks for that. I did think it might be nephew but I wasn't sure.

Hi

Is anyone able to confirm the names of the people mentioned in these extracts, along with their relationships to the testator and the bequests left to them?

I think that the following are mentioned in extract 1 [I have included a note of what I think the relationships and bequest are here]:

In extract 1

Jane Joyes my [niece?] now wife of John Joyes

Thomas Joyes - four shillings of good curreny English money

Mary Joyes - four shillings

Roberta/Robert Dad/Dod - five shillings

"Thomas Tomson my cousin twenty shillings"

In extract 2 I think the following are mentioned

"John Tomson my cousin twenty shillings"

"Ann Wodel[?] my cousin fourty shillings"

Many Thanks in advance

Matt

First extract:

...Jane Joyce my nice now wyfe of
John Joyce...

...thomas Joyce
tenn shillinges of good corrant English mony...
       [= current]

...marye Joyce tenn shillinges...

...rebacka dad five shillinges...
                     [= rebecca]

You have the last bequest correct, although the surname has an e at the end.
