SARAH JANE HAINE M TO HENRY HALL
« on: Monday 25 September 17 13:42 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have spent some time trying to find the m between Sarah Jane HAINE & Henry Hall, but to no avail

She was b 1818 bap 14.1.1819 Seaford, Sussex to Joseph & Sarah Simmonds and must have m before 1840 (assuming they were) when Emily Hall was b in Lambeth. She is on the 1851 C with her father, who had just become a widower & dau Emily....but nothing further

We would be grateful for any assistance as to m and any details about her d and her husband (b1818 Middlesex?)

Many thanks

Jane

Was she married before Henry Hall as you have her parents as Simmonds and her name as Haine  :-\

Could you please give the 1851 census details

Joseph   Haine   Widower   67   bn Seaford, Sussex
Sarah Ann   Hall      33   bn   Seaford, Sussex
Emily   Hall   Grand Daughter      11      Lambeth, Surrey

Emily's birth reg on gro seems to indicate she was illegitimate ( i.e. No mother's maiden name listed).

Both Sarah and Emily appear to be with Sarah's parents, Joseph and Sarah, in Lambeth in 1841. Whole family transcribed as Kaine on Ancestry ( which is what it looks like on original census entry).

I didn't think a mother's name was mentioned at a birth until 1911 (according to FreeBMD). Could you tell me where I can see the info you state

Are you suggesting that she was not m to Henry Hall? If she wasn't why did she change her name to Hall? after all presumably her parents must have known she was still single!

The GRO website ( free to use, although you will need to register with the website) now shows maiden name against births for all years from 1837. Also ages for all deaths.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
Where there is no mmn showing ,as in the case of Emily, it usually indicates an illegitimate birth i.e. only the mother is named. It would seem that Sarah was going by the name Hall.I am fairly confident the 1841 census entry where she is transcribed as Sarah Kaine (Haine)is the correct family as two other children listed (Rhoda and Jemima) married with the surname Haine, father Joseph Haine, a Bricklayer. These marriages are on Ancestry.

It could also be 'another' Emily Hall as not all births were registered in the early years of registration.

That's true Rosie99 , but it doesn't get away from the fact that both Sarah and Emily are listed as Haine in 1841.

Very true  ;D   It looks as though the birth certificate should be purchased for clarification
