Secretary hand: deciphering name
« on: Tuesday 26 September 17 11:29 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with this example of a first name written in secretary hand, dated 1589.

Same name appears 3 times on this page, it's less frequent on other pages but clearly a relatively common name.

First letter is R, and I'm speculating that next is an undotted i, then a c, with the final flourish indicating an abbreviation. That makes me think Richard is the most likely, but can't find other examples to confirm this as a likely way for the name to have been written.

Can anyone confirm?

You are correct.

It's Ric with a flourish, meaning Richard or, depending on context, Ricardus/Ricardi etc.
