Some marriage licenses have been indexed!!
« on: Wednesday 27 September 17 14:04 BST (UK) »
A tweet from the NRO alerted me to this.

Under CatalogueRef "ANW 24" are around 20,000 entries for the "Records of the Archdeaconry of Norwich".

Performing a sample search for the name Reeve:

On the NROCAT advanced search page; put "reeve" in the title field and "ANW 24" in the CatalogueRef field.

Click search, and revel in the results. In this case, the first record looks like this (attached).

To search on a bride AND groom name combination involves working out how to do an "AND" search on NROCAT.

Be warned, this is bizarre, and like nothing else I've ever seen.

Proceed as above, and get the results for your basic "one word" search.

Now go to the menu, and click on "General Searches->Advanced Search" again.

This gives you a new, blank search form. Do not panic.
Type your second name into the title field (no need to rekey the ANW 24)
Now click the "narrow" button (NOT the "search" button).

I did deliberately did a "failed" search (for a "Reeve" marrying a "Womack") and this failure message is most helpful:

Code: [Select]
0x0003 No records found for this search request.(((CatalogueRef='ANW 24')AND(Title='reeve')))AND((Title='womack'))
