Hello All,

Many thanks for the thoughts Annie, and the detail on the census ev. It makes sense Alexander Campbell was living with them at that point - he was an "imbecile" on one of the censuses and ended up in permanent care later in his life, once his parents had both gone.

Regarding William, I have checked all those records you suggested Annie except for the one from Eastwood. I'd never considered Eastwood as being likely.

Thoughts?

Is there anything for his birth at all? If he was born in Bridge of Johnstone, Renfrew around 1812 it should be possible to find something.

Best,

Tony

Tony,

What were the children's names in order please?

Have you considered he may have been with one of his children & do you know where they were 1881 - 1891.

"Is there anything for his birth at all? If he was born in Bridge of Johnstone, Renfrew around 1812 it should be possible to find something"

As far as I know all RC & CoS records are on SP but not all children were baptised & not all records have survived e.g. torn pages in the Registry Book or writing illegible.

I wouldn't be too rigid with his PoB as quite often it's not where they thought especially if the parents moved while they were young!

Any death cert will show his wife's name to establish you have the right entry

You are dealing with a pretty common name so may have to spend on some credits and download several death certs between 1881 and 1892 to get the right one

Only by doing so will you establish his parents names.

Hello,

Children were:
1) Euphemia Campbell (1840-1881) married Daniel Taylor (c.1831-1902)
2) Peter Campbell (1842-?)
3) William Campbell (1843-?)
4) Ann Campbell (1848-?) married John McAulay (1852-1935)
5) Alexander Carswell Campbell (1849-1925)
6) Jean Fulton Campbell (1850-1923) married James Peters (c.1847-1925)
7) Richard Reid Campbell (1852-1920)
8) Mary Ann Campbell (1855-1855)
9) Archibald Campbell (1855-1855).

I don't know where all those children lived. And I haven't went through the census records at all, primarily because of cost at the moment.

Best,

Tony

Thanks Carole. The hope is one can be found with time. It may be very costly given the number of guys with that name however. I'll get back to it at some point, when I've got more cash to spare on this. What about birth records? I wonder if such a record could be located. Generally, from my experience, the Presbyterians (which I think William Campbell was a member of) were excellent at record keeping.
