Looking for help on thomas m topping born 1897 St. Helens parents thomas and Mary. He was in 1/5th battalion south lancashire regiment and died 9 October 1918 any help greatly appreciated and thanks in advance

Some of his records are on Ancestry - you can see these at a library, or they may offer free access in November as they often do over the period around the 11th.

From what I can see, he joined up under age and was discharged. He must then have re-enlisted when he was old enough.
