There is a possible marriage of  Horace Valentine West to Ada Louise West
Marriages Sept Qtr 1902   Edmonton    3a   928   :-\

Added marriage online on Anc and he was an engineer age 20 at the time   father William Valentine Smith- deceased - Bottle stoppers?

Maybe in 1891 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:3RQ3-MT2

Well, I don't know what to make of this.....Birth cert has no father named. Mother Ada Louisa Smith nee West.1st March 1923 Highdale Place Clevedon Somerset. I think it is "Horace Valentine Smith" on the marriage cert.
My friend has said that when his father died, his mother went to Wales to be a housekeeper approx. 1925 and subsequently married the man  she was housekeeping for.
KAY99- If the 1902 marriage is a possible she would have been in her 40's when she had Sydney.
Can anyone find the death of Horace around 1923.

Very interesting that no father was named on Sydney's birth cert.  I would have thought his mother would have named Sydney's father if he had only just died.

I agree if the 1902 was the correct marriage cert for Sydney's parents his mother Ada Louisa West/Smith would have in in her early 40's by the time Sydney was born and it floored me when I found a death of his possible father pre 1911!!  Based on an Anc tree with the same family but doesn't have children for Horace/Ada post 1911 I think this may be Ada Louisa in 1911 listed as a widow  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW4J-V2R

I can't see a death of another Horace V Smith between 1910 and 1923
