Alexander Robertson, almost got you, with help please?
« on: Thursday 28 September 17 18:41 BST (UK) »
I have been looking a family member called Alexander Robertson for years, but without a birth date i had no chance. A very kind Rootschatter sent me a newspaper article with a him being sentenced to a year in Dukes Street prison in 1922, but still no address or date of birth. Today i heard from Scotlands people with futher information and was informed that he was 39 at the time of sentencing, that would give him a birth year of 1883. He was a dock labourer and  was living at 7 Rose Street. I would be grateful if anyone could find him on any of census or election rolls.
Thank you to everyone and kind regards Colcal

Have you searched for his marriage?

Newspaper reports that he fathered 13 children and 8 were dead

Hi Santi, i did try to search for a marriage but without knowing the spouses name its difficult. I think the only thing i can do is plan a trip to Scotland and look at the poor law records at the Mitchell Library. There cannot be that many families with eight children that have died, one in service and the rest in the poor house. The wife said that she had been in and out of the poor house 44 times, what terrible times they had to suffer.
Kind regards Colcal

.... sentenced to a year in Dukes Street prison in 1922 .... was informed that he was 39 at the time of sentencing, that would give him a birth year of 1883.
Assuming his age is accurate, and unless he was sentenced on 31 December 1922, he could have been born in 1882. If he was sentenced before 30 June 1922, he is actually more likely to have been born in 1882 than in 1883.

Thank you Forfarian for your reply. Yes you are right, he was tried on the 14th March 1922 so he could have been born in 1882 which is quite a few more Alexander Robertsons for me to look into. The wife said that they had been married 21 years so i can cross reference that too. Oh i was so excited cause i thought i was nearly there but back to the searching.
Thank you again regards Colcal
