Duncan McRae 1832-1880
« on: Friday 29 September 17 05:16 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I have been reading about all the Duncan McRae's on this forum but I didn't find the Duncan I am after (it is a very popular name!!)

Duncan McRae was born in 1832 in Dingwall, Scotland. He died on 19 MAR 1880 at Gooramadda Road, Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia.
Father: Duncan McRae (I am unable to find any info on him)
Mother: Margaret (unknown maiden name and no info on her)

If anyone had any info on this line it would be very much appreciated.

TIA
Kerryn

Hi,

There is 1 which could be a possible?

MCRAE DUNCAN 01/06/1832
DUN. MC RAE PEGGY MC RAE (FR279)
065/20 54 Fodderty (Parish & close to Dingwall)

Peggy/Peggie is also Margaret!

Surname for Peggy being McRae would infer that as her maiden name.

What were the names of the children of Duncan (1832) as the names are likely to be family names which may help?

Do you know if their children were born in Scotland, did they marry in Scotland?

Hi Annie,

Duncan's children were:
Jannet (Jessie) McRae
BIRTH 12 OCT 1854 Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
DEATH 28 JAN 1941 160 Park Street Brunswick, Victoria, Australia

Maggie (Margaret) McRae
BIRTH 1858 3 Mile Creek, Victoria, Australia
DEATH 1952 Caulfield, Victoria, Australia

Isabella McRae
BIRTH 08 OCT 1861 Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia
DEATH 13 MAY 1903 Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia

Walter Ross McRae
BIRTH 1864 Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia
DEATH 30 APR 1946 Corowa, New South Wales, Australia

Mary McRae
BIRTH 1865 Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia
DEATH 12 SEP 1940 Audley Street, Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia

Duncan H McRae
BIRTH 1870 Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia
DEATH 6 JULY 1955 Rutherglen, Victoria, Australia

So its a possibility that Ross was her maiden name.. but I think its strange that its the 4th child mind you Walter is the first male born.

This is a high possibility. Would be really good to get a copy of his marriage certificate to Margaret McKenzie.

I agree, the naming pattern seems to be in reverse (if the ones I posted are correct) which did happen but Walter is a bit of an enigma  ???

Duncan 48
Peggy 34 (Margaret)
Catharine 13
Isabella 11
Duncan 9
Alexr 7
Farquhar 5
John 3

Can you pick out names from the wife's line to see who's left  :-\

Jannet (Jessie)
Maggie (Margaret)
Isabella
Walter
Mary
Duncan H (Do you know what the 'H' stands for)?

The ones in blue seem to be family names (again if correct).

Can you identify the other's with the wife?

What was her name & do you have her parents?

"This is a high possibility. Would be really good to get a copy of his marriage certificate to Margaret McKenzie."

Her name is Peggy/Margaret McRae
