Regency Square, Brighton, house numbering
« on: Friday 29 September 17 10:46 BST (UK) »
I’m trying to find out if there have been any house number changes over the years in Regency Square, Brighton.

My ancestor lived at No. 20 in 1851 which is currently the house on the corner but the numbering may have changed since then.

Can anyone help please ?
Many thanks

I can't see any reason why Regency Square would have been renumbered.  The whole square numbers 1-56 was laid out on one plan and all the houses built between 1818-1828 with a requirement to the builders to maintain the external appearance set out in the plan.  So the positions of each house can't have changed at any stage since then.

That's very helpful John, thank you for the info.

I've just found an image of the Square in a book dated 1854 which shows the numbering is the same as today so that's great.
