Dna Testing questions

1. Trying to trace a 'father unknown'. Would a YDna test taken by the unknown's male grand child be of any use?

2. I would like to trace my paternal grandmother's father. I'm male, is there any DNA test that might lead me to him?

3. Is it still agreed by most that the Ancestry autosomal test is the best place (because of the size of the database) to start with DNA testing?

I'd greatly appreciate any comments/help/advice

Might I ask a question re Y-DNA?

I'm considering asking the great grandson of the person I would like to trace (a father unknown) if they would be willing to take a DNA test.

What might the results of such a test tell me and, as I'm not initially interested in going back any further might a 12 marker test be informative?

If you do a DNA test the raw data info can be downloaded onto GEDmatch to give you a greater chance of finding relatives to give you the answer you want.

GEDmatch is a free site to download your info to from wherever you have had it analysed. You are therefore not restricted to just one company's database.
