Any ideas as to what the profession/trade may be?
« on: Saturday 30 September 17 14:04 BST (UK) »
1841 Census. I can't make out the first word, I think the second is Trade.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I agree 'Trade'. Certainly looks like 'Wa' to start with possibly a long double 's' - still working on it  ;). hard to know if that is a crossed 't' or a blot on paper...

Do you have an occupation from 1851 or had the person died? Is the location in the north eg woollen or worsted country?

Can you give us the census reference so we can look at other writing on the same page?

How about "Warp Lace Trade"?

I see there was a Warp Lace Trade Society

Thanks Josey.  I had a bit of an advantage with this old trade because of my age and know what a warp and weft is due to being taught how to weave at school.

If anyone comes across an "Inkle factory" I can tell them that it made fancy ribbons  ;D

Thank You Rena, Warp Lace Trade it is. Makes sense as he lived in Bramcote, Nottingham.

You're welcome, but I think you would have had quicker and more responses if you'd given Nottingham as a clue because it's so famous for its lace making.
