Trying to find the marriage and death of James English born Coxlodge, Gosforth abt. 1881.
His parents were Andrew English and Margaret Ann Robson. His wife was called Jennie and they lived in the Newbiggin
area in the 1940/50s where he was a miner.
Look forward to any further information.

There is this possibility: James English + Jane Bennett, 1st q. 1908, Castle Ward 10B 459 (the name you have quoted, Jennie, was a commonly used pet name for Jane).

This marriage would be on my list of 'quite possibles'

Free BMD, Marriages 1908, Q1 , Castle Ward
James English
on the same page as Jane Bennett

'Jennie' is a common variation of Jane.

Given a maiden name of Bennett, if you know of the names of any children, check Free BMD (and GRO for births prior to 1911) for births of surname English , MMN Bennett and see if they co-incide.

A Free search of the 1939 register shows a James English born c1881 living in Newbiggin, we are not allowed to do look ups, but if you have access I'd recommend looking at the image - especially bearing in mind that mistransciptions are rife and the names of the other people  in the house may not be correctly transcribed.

ADDED - apologies to JenB for the echo!

Boo

Thank you for your help everyone.
I have settled on James English who married Jane Bennett.
They had two children -  James in 1909 and Hannah in 1912.

There is a quite possible death registration on FreeBMD for James English

Q3 1957, Northumberland Central (which covered Newbiggin), age 76

I checked and can't see a probate record to confirm/deny it, nor is there anything in the available online newspapers.

The only other James English in the right area of the right age died in 1941, death registered in Newcastle (could have died in hospital, long way though it is always possible he was having specialist treatment only available there, but its a real long shot for someone living in Newbiggin). No probate record for this man either.
