Penmachno in the 1939 Register
« on: Monday 02 October 17 15:51 BST (UK) »
I don't appear to be able to access information on the residents of Penmachno on the 1939 Register. I have tried Llanrwst with it being the nearest town, but still not showing up. I would be grateful of any help with what to try next.

Thank You,

Ellen

Don’t know much about Wales but I googled and found Penmachno is 4 miles south of Betws-y-Coed which is on the Register, could they have combined the two areas?
Also a map shows Glasgwm Road near Penmachno Hall, there is a Glasgwm Road in Nant Conwy RD but I don’t know if it’s the same one.

Hi Ellen

This is a tricky one if you can't find them under their names.

I looked at the 1911 census for the village.

If the village at that time had streets with no names, then the 1939 may also reflect that.

my great aunt is in a cottage in a village in Oxforshire and the street has no name so it was really difficult finding her

I had a look at this site from the National Archives

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/C152354

and made a note of the RD code numbers as they often appear at the tops of the pages

and then this site

http://www.oneplacestudy.org/blog/?p=874

and opened the spreadsheet

Llanwrst has the piece numbers 7581E, 7581F, 7581G, 7581H

from lines 63228 to 63231

It then really is a case of scrolling thrugh all the pages in those piece numbers, they usually start at page 002 onwards.

The place is will be tucked away somewhere under the Llanwrst heading rather than the village's individual name.

Thank you all so much for your help, I have now found the family I was looking for at last under Nant Conway RD using your suggestions. How odd that they didn't use the name of the village  ???

The 1939 register was compiled as registration districts not separate villages abit like parliamentary constituencies.
