The 1939 Register
« on: Monday 02 October 17 17:03 BST (UK) »
I am thinking of taking out the one month subscription for the 1939 Register which is just under a tenner. Can anyone tell me if that subscription gives me unlimited access for the whole month or is there a limit to how many searches I can have for my subscription in that month, or if there are any hidden charges ?  I have a list of names on four pages of A4 that I want to do in the month.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Regards

My only criteria would be to check that your one month subscription did cover the 1939 Register!!

As far as I am aware you can do as many searches as you want.  I've got a full subscription, so don't have any particular knowledge of the short-term subscriptions.  :-\

Just checked and the attached appears on FindMyPast website - so, sorry, you can't access 1939 on a one month subscription.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The 1939 register is not covered by a one month subscription

Have you checked with your local library to see if they have a library subscription?

Thank you for the replies regarding information on the 1939 Register. I will be contacting my local library to see if they have a subscription, if not I will use the pay as you go.

Your county library web page probably shows whether they do, I know Surrey does.

Hi Martin :)

FindMyPast charge 60 pay-as-you-go credits for one household = £6.95.
It's cheaper if you buy 300 credits (5 households) = £24.95 (£4.99 per household).
Cheapest deal is 900 credits (15 households) = £54.95 (£3.66 per household).

If your 4 A4 pages contain 15 households each, you're looking at well over £200 in total, which I think is more than a year's subscription for all UK records (including census, BMD, etc) :o

Better hope your library has FindMyPast ;D

Hi Rosie and Carol

Thank you for your replies, I will be contacting my local library for either a cheers or tears result.

Carol, thank you for that breakdown of how the credits are used. If that was on the site then I missed that breakdown, if it is not then it should be, it makes life simpler and you can see what your outlay is likely to be.

Kind regards

Martin

Thanks Martin :)

I found the info this way (other methods must be available!):

1 - Go to https://www.findmypast.co.uk
2 - Select '1939 Register' from blue bar at top of page.
3 - Search for (first name) Winston L S, (last name) Churchill, (place) London.
4 - Only one(!) result appears - hit 'Preview'.
5 - Hit 'Unlock this household' and the payment options appear - scroll down to the 'credits' bit.

I can't think why they're being so coy about it ::) ;D

I currently have a one month subscription for £12.95 which gives access to the 1939 Register.
