Thanks everyone for your help; I'll investigate this repeated immigration, which I would have thought quite an expensive thing to do.

My Robert is Robert Taylor, born on 19th July 1862 in Latheron, Caithness. His wife was Elizabeth Tosh Isabella Taylor, born 18th August 1866 in Leith. (Yes, same surname!)

Hi,

Thanks for that. I haven't really started tracing the US side of the tree so this is a useful starter.

I have a friend who has ancestors who lived in California.  They were farmers and sailed to Portugal about once a year (for at least ten years).  Perhaps some people were able to save up money to be able to return to their native country for a visit(s)?

Well, there is the expression 'No such thing as a poor farmer'!

Can I ask where you found the attachment 'Euphemia Murdock.jpg'?

Sandra found it.  One of the places one can view it is on a "paysite".  I don't know if it can be found elsewhere.  :-\

Hi Sandra,

You wrote "Her father Robert was also buried at this cemetery according to his death certificate in 1915". Do you happen to have a copy of his death certificate that you could post here?

Thanks
