I wouldn't want to rule out Marion. The "-man" at the end of Chapman is a bit run together, so if the same is true here, I think there's room for "-on". If it was just an "a", it would be quite wide... Also  :-\
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

I would agree on Marion.

You haven't given a date/place i.e. have you tried to find her in a census?

I think this photo below cleaned up on Rootschat site, was taken in the 1930's in Orrell Liverpool (West Derby registration district) and hopefully shows a little boy with my Granddad & Grandma.
I think the name on the rear of the photo is Marion
like John Wayne's real name Marion Morrison.
This may solve the mystery/rumour that Granddad had a "Love Child"
On another photo/portrait of Granddad  addressed to "My Darling Son" pre 1943
but addressed to a Miss Phyllis Perkins at 120 Bardsay Rd Walton Liverpool 4 not known in the Family nor are any Marion's
Nearest is a two year girl he had with Nan "Muriel Chapman" she died 14 April 1932 but I think this photo is of a Boy not her.

If the boy was a 'love child' would he be in a photo with your grandma?

Have you looked for Phyllis in the 1939 register?
SNAP rosie

ADDED: Are you sure it doesn't say Muriel - second letter isn't as closed as the other 'a's....could be your grandparents with a neighbour's son....

Not very good at searching 1939 Register, would I look at her address or use her DOB
I did think it might show a child living with her and her own parents at that address
She married in 1943 aged 29
