Can anyone workout the place name
« on: Wednesday 04 October 17 13:59 BST (UK) »
Hello,

All my attempts to work out this place name in County Waterford have so far failed. It looks like Carrighbrahen based on the letters in other parts of the birth register. I've been on logainm ie to try to find a match and still no luck. Perhaps it has been incorrectly written down.

Can't do a direct link on iPad but there is a Carrigbraghan in the townland of Carrickavarahane on the OSI Mapviewer found under Waterford, Locality. Your one doesn't have a g in it though and might end in hon.

It looks like it may be as you say just looked at the logainm ie database again under townland of Carrickavarahane and it brought back what looks like a match. See attachment. Would you agree ?

It is certainly in the area I expected it to be.

Hallmark you are correct Kilmeaden area. So the other one Sinnan picked I don't think is correct. This guy moved around the County quite a bit. So I now need to get a fix on the parish or townland in the Kilmeaden district that is a fit.

Yes, the District is important which is why I included it instead of having people look at the whole County

Perhaps it has been incorrectly written down.
I've transcribed quite a few Ireland register entries & even on the same page the same townland is spelled differently. I would put this version as Carrigbrahan. Spellings weren't set in stone then & clerks varies in their interpretation.
