How to tell if they're Jones family
« on: Wednesday 04 October 17 14:44 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have a photograph of three men, one older and two younger.  One of the younger men is definitely my great grandfather.  The other two I'm fairly sure are his brother and my 2 x great grandfather but as I have no other photos of either of them, I'm not 100% sure.

They're in a grouping of young man standing behind the two seated and the two seated are touching feet.  They're in work clothes but clean and tidy.

I seem to recall that there were hidden meanings behind how groups were seated and arranged in old photos.  Is this true?  If they are touching, are they likely to be related to each other?

Hands on shoulders are usually a sign of relationship - either kin or husband/wife.

Photo went up just as I was posting!

The man standing and the man sitting on the right have some similar facial features.

The man seated on the right is my great grandfather, 100% certain.  I'm rather hoping that the other two are his father and brother.

It looks like it could be three generations.

I must admit my immediate thought was three generations: grandfather, father and son.

Thanks everyone,

The older man (if he's who I think) was George Jones born 1838, the standing man was also George Jones born 1873 and died in 1916 during WW1 (he was 43 and in my opinion, shouldn't have even been in France but that's another story) and the younger seated man is Thomas Jones born 1881.
