I can't find a Swainson/Boardman marriage.  Logically, it should be between 1839-1841

I've been trying to trace the same info! I have details of Ann(e) Boardman from the census and his second marriage to Sarah Bratby in 1873 is recorded, but drawn a blank on his birth in 1820/21. I also wonder whether he was the son of Samuel Hornby Swainson B 11.4.1782 and Margaret Broadrick B 1875 Liverpool, but it would be nice to have proof. I think Samuel was the son of Richard Swainson b 1758 who married Isabella Hornby b. 1758 in Liverpool on 22.10.1779, but again I can't trace either of their births/baptisms in 1758. I wondered whether Richard was born 1753 and Isabella 1755.

Buying a copy of the 1873 marriage cert will show his fathers name

I agree the Cert is a must as there does not appear to be anything on-line for the 1873 Marriage.

Not sure if you know that Richard Swainson was a Mariner according to his 1779 Marriage.
Samuel who married Margaret Broadrick was a Trunkmaker.
Margaret was buried 01 Jan 1829 age 42, Wife of Samuel a Trunkmaker.

Hi - the marriage certificate for Samuel Swainson (52 years widower - Brush Maker) and Sarah Bratby (35 years spinster - Mill Hand) is dated 2 November 1873. It says that Samuel Swainson's father was Samuel Swainson (deceased) Trunk Maker, which ties in with him being the child of Samuel Hornby Swainson and Margaret Broadrick of Liverpool. I think Samuel Hornby Swainson's parents were Richard Swainson and Isabella Hornby who Married on 22.10.1779 at St Peters Church Liverpool. From there it's tricky as they both say they were born in 1758 and there are no records that tie in with these birth dates.

where did you find Richard and isabella were born in 1758 please. The marriage certificate does not state their age - just married by licence
