Shea / Taylor - Around Grafton NSW
« on: Thursday 05 October 17 00:32 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to find my great grandmothers family which we know very little about. All I know is:

Great Grandmother: Theresa Eva Shea b 1890. One of my aunties said she was born in Grafton NSW and her birthday was in May. There is a Theresa Eva Shea born in South Grafton, NSW  18th May 1890 on NSW BDM website. Parents are listed as Denis Shea and Mary Taylor.

GGM's sister - Sarah Ann SHEA, she married Francis Claud RAWLINSON. No children. This has been the best lead as my mum stayed with them (aunty Nan and Claud as they were known), and the husband Claud Rawlinson is an unusual name. Sarah's parents are listed as Denis and Mary on NSW BDM marriage certificate.

There is a marriage between Denis Shea and Mary Taylor in 1884 Bellinger River, New South Wales, Australia on NSW BDM. James and Margaret Taylor are present at the wedding - I am guessing maybe father and mother.

Theresa's son said there was a bother Bob who was a detective. A sister Irene who was attached when she was very young (around 15) on here way home from work and went crazy.
There is a Robert SHEA  on NSW BDM b 1886.
There is a Delia Irene SHEA on NSW BDM b 1899, d 6 Oct 1920.

Theresa has a son Thomas Brain Beattie in 1918 (my grandfather). There is no fathers name on the birth certificate we have. Theresa then meet Richard Cecil Hart. They never married, but they had 2 sons. Thomas Brain was always known as a Hart after this.

If anyone has any info or can point me in the right direction that would be great.

thanks
Dave

You seem to know a lot, actually.

What exactly are you looking for?

I find they way you have written about Irene somewhat disturbing. Any chance you could alter it?

Hi, I am wanting to find all the info on the family - is the information I have correct, were there any other bothers and sisters, what happened to them if there was - married, kids etc. Where did the parents come from, their ancestry etc..

I will modify/sanitise what I wrote about Irene, but its what happened.

You can search NSWDDM: https://familyhistory.bdm.nsw.gov.au/lifelink/familyhistory/search?13

It appears that there is more than one Denis/Dennis Shea in the same area, so use both variation of the spelling.

Here is an obit for one, 5th column, and looks like his wife Elizabeth, 4th column:

I have searched NSW BDM's. That is where i found the info I have as stated in first post.

I also noticed the different spellings of Denis/Dennis so not sure of his correct spelling.

As for Elizabeth, I don't think she is connected - no one has ever mentioned an Elizabeth.
The sons names in the obit don't match what little I do know. The only son I have heard of is Bob (probably robert)

I am thinking that the father of Teresa is the son of Denis and Elizabeth.

Here is a death:

13553/1920 SHEA Dennis parents DENNIS and ELIZABETH BELLINGEN

There is this death notice for Denis SHEA on 20 July 1886, at Grafton
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article62098988

and on NSW BDM:
Denis SHEA died Grafton (9832/1886) parents Patrick and Bridget

Modified to strike through - not the right Denis SHEA

This obit for Elizabeth SHEA says her husband died "seven" years previously,
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article61643984

So his death:
Denis SHEA (9058/1907) at Grafton, father: Michael

So maybe they immigrated as a family from wales.

I have seen a document where it states that denis's mothers name was elizabeth, but i can't find it. His marriage certificate doesnt have it or list where they are from.
