Looking for burials
« on: Thursday 05 October 17 11:31 BST (UK) »
Whilst searching for something else, I found another daughter for my g.grandparents, sadly the little girl born in 1881 died in 1885 of pneumonia.  Of their 8 children, 4 died young, one on 4 October 1883 aged 4 years (measles and haemoptysis), one on 2 August 1885 aged 4 years (pneumonia), one on 27 March 1894 aged 6 years (acute meningitis) and one on 27 August 1901 aged 15 (Enteric fever- which I think is Typhoid fever and TB).  The little girl who died in 1894 is buried in Grave 1183/position 11, Manchester General Cemetery, the 15 year old boy who died in 1901 is buried in Philips Park Cemetery, as are his parents, his father in 1910 and his mother in 1900.  So where would the little boy who died in 1883 and the little girl in 1885 be buried?

Unfortunately, neither of them is listed on the Manchester City Council burials website nor on Deceased on line.  The address the family was living at in 1883 and 1885 was Hayden Street, Manchester.  I don't know which cemetery would be nearest to their address and as their father was a master Baker, I can't think that his children's bodies were just put into someone else's coffin without a note being made somewhere.

Any ideas please?

Thank you - looking at the map it looks as though Manchester General Cemetery is possibly the nearest to their address but, unfortunately, their names don't show up on the burials for that cemetery.

Heather

Have a word with the "Manchester General Cemetery Transcription Project Team"

But what I can tell you is the register for that cemetery is virtually unreadable in parts

Their names were George Frederick Cockett, died 4 October 1883 and Florence Elizabeth Cockett died 2 August 1885.

Their sister Edith Florence who died in 1894 was buried in Manchester General Cemetery.  By 1900 the family had a grave in Philips Park Cemetery.

ps.  Sorry not getting notifications of replies. problem now fixed

Unless anyone stumbles across the burials in one of the Manchester cemeteries, I don't expect I'll ever find out.  There's no-one left alive now who might have had an idea.

Thanks to all.
