Thomas Brown and Barbara ?, Whitby, North Yorks.
« on: Thursday 05 October 17 15:37 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Been a while.

Can anyone assist please.

I have Rebecca Brown the dau of Thomas and Barbara born in 03/ Sep 1781.

Her siblings are:
William b. 1776.
Thomas b. 1775.
Mary Moore b. 1775.

All baptised in St. Mary's Whitby, North Yorkshire.

I cannot seem to find their parents Thomas Brown and Barbara ???

It's probably before 1775 (or there abouts) but no luck. I have the St. Mary's PRs on CD Rom but they are not in there.

Can anyone help locate them please?

Thanks in advance :)

As Thomas is a mariner/sailor, the marriage could have taken place anywhere.  There is no trace within the parish registers and BTs available for Yorkshire.

How about this - ties in with Mary Moore Brown baptism  :-\

Thank you very much.

Ties in with the Moore name by the looks of it.

Mary Moore Brown b. 21-Sep-1775. c. 22-Sep-1775.
William Brown b. 6-Dec-1776 c. 12-Dec-1776. d. 27-Mar-1781.

I'll have to try and see if I can get a copy of the licence and the marriage record.

The marriage entry is available on Ancestry under "All London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns 1754-1930.  I can't find an image of the Allegation.

Bit of an update.

Spoke to my Mum who is a font of useless information as she calls herself (but not in all cases she's a clever old lady).

She said Wapping could really be a possibility as Whitby boats (the locals called them 'cats') used to dock in Wapping. She also mentioned there is a pub called 'The Prospect of Whitby' in Wapping.

Does seem to add up.

Also when Rebecca Brown and her second husband moved to London they were at one point living on High Street, Ratcliffe Highway and Church Street, Bethnal Green. Both to the East End of London

I've visited the Prospect of Whitby on a number of occasions, when we lived in the East End  ;D ;D
