James Allison born Strathaven, Lanarkshire
« on: Friday 06 October 17 05:50 BST (UK) »
I am researching James Allison who may have been born circa 1806. He married Agnes Mair who was born Lanarkshire.
James and Agnes had 3 sons James Mair Allison, Hugh Allison, Alexander Allison and a daughter Agnes. They settled in the Coolah district. James died in 1868 at Dubbo and his father was James the mothers name isnt on the death record.
I was just wanting to know if James Allison snr is buried at Oakey Creek Station as his son James Mair Allison and some other members of the family are buried there. I would be grateful for any other information about this family. I know Hugh and Alexander settled in the Moree and Warialda district.
Kind regards,
Allison Terry  :) :)

Just to make things clear - "Oakey Creek Station", Coolah, Moree and Warialda don't sound like Scottish places!
I'm guessing in Australia? But you don't say that specifically in your post.

It would help if we knew where to look - Scotland or Australia!  :)

(Only looked at this because you had Strathaven in the title - I have ancestors from there - including an Agnes Mair! But it doesn't sound like the same family. There were lots of MAir families around there! )

Hi.
Very sorry I wasn't specific with places. Yes I did mean Oakey creek station cemetery Coolah Australia. I mentioned Moree and Warialda Australia also because Hugh Allison was in the Moree area and Alexander his brother was in Warialda district. Their brother
James Mair Allison is the most well known of this family. I am most interested in James Allison snr as I don't know much about him. Him and his wife Agnes were considered pioneers in the Coolah district but everything I have read is about the son James Mair Allison.
Kind regards
Allison 😊

For Australian info you may be better off starting a new query on the Australian Board.
There are some great researchers on there.

As to Lanarkshire;
Did James/Agnes marry there?
Were the children born there?
So you know when they went to Oz?

Trish :)

EDIT answered these questions myself, below!

Hi Trish,
James and Agnes married and had their children before coming to Australia. James was the oldest and apparently married in New York before moving to Victoria Australia.
Thank you for the information you posted. It would be good to know when they may have come to Australia.
Cheers
Allison 😊 😊
