I do not have access to the 1939 register, but the glimpse I can see shows both Ethel and William A REEVES at Penge. So his death has come after that year.

What do you believe was the man's correct name?

Hi westy....

William Alfred Reeves married Elizabeth Emma Chalf in 1889 St Saviour district

Tazzie

This is correct with the additional and fuller information-
December quarter
Vol 1d page 103

Father and Mothers Names:
William Albert Reeves
Ethel Warden

For your interest the mother's maiden name on all three births of the sons is CHALF.

Do you need the details?

Hi Sue,

According to the marriage certificate the father was William Albert.

Yes I would appreciate the information for the 3 boys.

Interesting in the 1911 census William & Ethel said they had no children.

Archive reference: RG14; Registration district: Croydon; Registration district number: 39 Enumeration district: 9: District number: 9; Sub district: Penge; Sub district number: 5; Census reference: RG14PN3413 RG78PN128 RD39 SD5 ED9 SN81; RG78 code number: 128; Piece number: 3413

The address was the same as the 1901 and also the death and Probate you have kindly provided.

Your thoughts?

Westy

That is because they did not have children.
The column heading is "children born alive to the present marriage"

There were none.
The children were born to Elizabeth CHALF.

Sue thanks so much. :)

You have successfully pulled me back from the brink of a big mistake and reaffirmed for me I should put everything away and go and clear my head. ;D

Family History is not the place to make mistakes due to muddy thinking. :'(

I think this is your REEVES family -

At All Saints Church Newington Surrey marriage 25 Dec 1889
REEVES William Alfred , 23 yrs, bachelor, labourer, father William Alfred, contractor
9 Arthur Road Beckenham

CHALF Elizabeth 21 yrs, spinster, father William, cook.
7 Chilton St

Witnesses James CONNER, Emma Emily JACKSON.

Census 1891 at 29 Thessigar (??) Rd Beckenham
REEVES William, head,   24yrs general labourer b. Penge Surrey
REEVES Elizabeth, wife,  22 yrs  b. Poplar London
JACKSON Harriet, cousin,   19yrs  general servant, b. Limehouse.

The JACKSON connection suggested here should be with the REEVES family, but people were often more inclusive with family description, so Harriet might be a cousin to Elizabeth.

To be sure Wivenhoe: the father's name is REEVES William Alfred and not REEVES William Albert?  ???

I need to get this right  ;D
