Looks like a good offer but they keep asking me to sign up for free trial.
Can't get detailed access to records otherwise.
Is there any way round this?

Hi,

I have an Ancestry account that is not currently active (I turn it on from time to time)...so I have a username/password.  As long as I am signed in, even with an inactive sub, I can see the free census records etc. this weekend.

If you are having trouble, you can always get free access to Canadian census records through the Library and Archives Canada site.  These records are always free :)

http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx

Choose the one you want from the grey bar on the left..and off you go :)

ALso free on that site are WW1 military records (including full military files ... currently in the process of being digitized.  Many are already online..see Personnel Records of the First World War)

http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/Pages/introduction.aspx

Free Immigration records (though not as easy to use/find records as it is on Ancestry)
http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/immigration/Pages/introduction.aspx

Lots of other free records are on that site as well :).

Thanks RK. When looking for bmd's I was getting an invitation to join Ancestry

So it's not just me :D
I only wanted to find one marriage and one birth.  Oh well, they can wait.

Carol

Hi Carol,

If you are looking for Ontario births/marriages/deaths, you can find those for free on familysearch

You can also check FS for British Columbia bmd records, or you can find them here
