Military pic, WW2 Royal Artillery, possibly S. Staffs, person unknown.
« on: Saturday 07 October 17 17:20 BST (UK) »
I've got one of those 'oh I know who does FH and I wonder if they can help' questions that I like getting from friends, but I felt my heart sink on this one.

Basically it's your typical 'that's a nice frame' purchase from a charity shop.  It had a 1980's faded picture of a woman.  (very like a Kylie type picture, big permed hair)

Ok, so far, so what..... Well when my friend took this photo out a much older picture was revealed.
Now I guess the original person who gave it away had either forgotten, or never knew about this second picture.  It would be nice to try and at least find out the regiment and then for me to post it to the appropriate message board so that maybe someone might find it, if they are interested.

It's such a shame when this happens.

If I'm not in the right place, please let me know.  Any ideas about the correct country this chap was in the military and the approx. year, would be fantastic.

Thank you

Hi, I would say the chap is second world war era and possibly RAF Ground crew, that's based primarily on the cap and shirt he's wearing, he could of course be something else, the problem being there is no insignia or cap badge, there are a number of possibilities to be honest.

You may be better asking a Mod to put it on the "Armed Forces" board (WWII)

I'm sure someone else will be along to offer advise and opinions  :)

Just coming back on this, after a bit of searching I'm inclined to think he could be Royal Artillery:

This chap is from the internet.

But as said earlier the lack of insignia makes it difficult  :-\

Thank you Sarah, I was a bit at a loss where to put it.  :)

Thank you Frank, that is a great help (and nice clean up too, Peter :-D )
I haven't had any pics like this in my own research, (only WW1) so that is very helpful.
I was trying to look very carefully at the uniform, but does seem to be lacking any insignia, so that makes it harder.  You have just confirmed my fears on that one.

But if it is UK and probably Royal Artillery, then at least that's a start and I know it was found in S Staffordshire, so if he was in that area (or Midlands generally) that might help with a possible regiment.  If he was from elsewhere, then no hope really.

But this was a long shot, so thank you again.
So, if anyone is familiar with the area and Royal Artillery and can shed any light on this, I would be most grateful.

Cheers

Cindy

ok, I've had a 'look round' and although I'm sure I used to be able to modify a title of a thread I'd started, I just can't find how to do it now.

Is there a way to do that?  If not, should I start again?
I wanted to replace the title with:
Military pic, WW2 Royal Artillery, possibly S. Staffs, person unknown.

So that the Rootschat military specialists who know about this might spot the query.

Thank you.
