Immigration Records
« on: Saturday 07 October 17 18:08 BST (UK) »
I've been trying to track an ancestor, who was born in the USA according to all his subsequent census entries (no idea where) but can not find him or either of his parents on any record either travelling too or from america. Also unable to find UK birth record for him so can not prove he was not born in America. I've not used immigration records before and could really use some help?

David Starkie. Born around 1872 in 'USA' on subsequent census. Parents both missing from 1871 census. Mother is Sarah, Father is James. Originally from Hindley Lancashire.

Thanks.

Looking at rhoda in 1891, her mmn is Greenhalgh, as john b 1875ish appears to be.

Suspect rhodas parents are albert and ellen greenhalgh (b 1869)

I think you could have second marriages in  that 1881 family unit.

Ellen is Davids sister. I have both these census entries. What I cant find is any emmigration information. I cant trace any of them going to or coming from america yet David is listed as a British Subject from USA.

Ellen is not necessarily David's sister.

I suspect Ellen was born to Sarah out of wedlock. So they could be anything from full siblings to half siblings to completely different parents.

How did you do your passenger searches? Did you specify the david starkie name, or search for and eliminate every child b 1872ish coming into the UK?
