Old Howff Cemetery, Dundee website
« on: Saturday 07 October 17 19:57 BST (UK) »
Until recently there was a website with photos and drawings of graves at the Old Howff but it's not coming up in searches any longer.  I wonder what has happened to it?

I assume you mean http://www.dundee-howff.info/ - Tooms of the Dundee Howff.

I read somewhere that the site had crashed and was being restored from backup. Looks like that didn't work.

The data is still mostly available through the Internet Archive. That site is a bit messy but more than worth mastering - I use several genealogical resources  through it. Try these:

1: A direct link to the latest useful capture is
https://web.archive.org/web/20170701214107/http://www.dundee-howff.info/

2: If you browse to https://web.archive.org/ and enter the old URL you can see all the captures, and lots of other detail.

If you just want the burial records, not pictures, try http://www.fdca.org.uk/Howff_Burials.html

Thank you very much Gordon.   That's the site I'm looking for.

It has a black and white photo of an ancestor's grave which is still very legible.  More recent photos show that the gravestone has deteriorated since the black and white photo was taken, so I was a little anxious when I couldn't find the website.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the images of our ancestor's grave via the Wayback machine.

Hi Hurworth

Why not contact the Dundee City Archives and make enquiries there www.dundeecity.gov.uk/service-area/corporate-services/democratic-and-legal-services/archives

You also have this group's Facebook pg at www.facebook.com/DundeeHowff/

Wondering if this was part of that collection? www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/2014/07/02/secrets-of-dundees-howff-burial-ground-unearthed/

Thank you very much Monica.  I've found the new link via the Facebook page and I'm thrilled that the photos I am after are all there.

It's now here:
