Expert Help Needed - Waterston's of Lanarkshire
« on: Saturday 07 October 17 22:03 BST (UK) »
I have well and truly hit a brick wall.

Please can someone help me out.......?

Catherine Haddow (1811 - 1869) married Alexander Waterston (1816 - 1862) in Hamilton , Lanarkshire on 15th Oct 1837.

The Census's are confusing as it looks like Alexander perhaps lived apart form his wife and family.

They are together in 1841 Census with fist daughter Jane. Catherine is incorrectly listed as Ketran. They are living Union Street, Hamilton. Ive been told of 4 other kids being born and the census's back most of this up

William circa 1842
Helen/Ellen circa 1844
Mary circa 1845
John 1847 - I don't need any help with John as I have his information but the other 3 are a mystery.

No deaths for any of the three, no marriages, William and Helen appear on 1851 census in Hamilton then nothing.

Mary doesn't appear on 1851 but shes back on the census in 1861 before disappearing all together

I'm desperate to know what became of these three.

Please Help !!

William Waterston is recorded in the 1861 England census, age 24, born in Blantyre, Lanark, Scotland; single; occupation carpenter crew on board the vessel Impregnable. The census place is Anglesey, Cornwall.

The UK List of Military Deserters (1812 - 1927) shows :
William Waterston  Age: 25  Birth Year: Abt 1843  Birth Place: Blantyre, Lanarkshire
Desertion Date: 31 March 1868  Desertion Place: Chatham  Publication Date: 14 April 1868
Regimental Number: 8822  Military Corps: Royal Engineers

William Watterson (sic) subsequently appears in the 1871 Scotland Census age 29, born Blantyre, Lanarkshire, occupation joiner, boarder in the Bryden household at at 26 Annfield St, High Church, Glasgow.

There is also an immigration record for a William Waterston, age 40, departing Glasgow on the vessel Bolivia for New York, arriving there on 21 September 1880.

If you think, this is your William Waterston, send me a PM and I'll forward those documents to you.

Cheers,

Rodeo

It may be an idea to post some details about John as the others may be close by/moved to wherever he went & may give a better chance of locating the others especially females who may have married i.e. having different surnames?

Good find Trish!

A Helen Waterson has an illeg. Daug Grace born 3 Sept 1862, Hamilton, Lanarkshire.
(Familysearch.Org)

That one may be worth downloading as there may be a RCE with additional info. although not always but it also depends on what you really want/need to know?

You need to download 1st to find out if there's a RCE which is then FREE to download.

WATERSTON GRACE 1862
