Order of Names on Monument
« on: Saturday 07 October 17 22:58 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have a monumental inscription which is very old and many of the dates are illegible.

Assuming I have the family relationships correct, the head of the family is at the top of the monument but he died after his first and second wives. There are only burial registers for him and his second wife and the date for his first is illegible.

Are the order of names on a monument always in the same order as the dates in which they died?

Is it possible that the monument was erected long after the head of the family died and one of the children had the monument erected?

Cheers

It's possible that the stone was erected later. I have one that displays the father, the mother and then the adult daughter. The daughter died first.

Not all people could afford a headstone. It is entirely possible that a child might have eventually had enough good financial fortune to erect a monument that was previously too much money.

Hi Ayashi

Thank you. Yes the son was financially better off than his father.

Makes sense

Warm Regards
