BRICKWALL: Samuel Barrett
« on: Sunday 08 October 17 06:42 BST (UK) »
Trying to find birth and parents of Samuel Barrett born about 1795. His marriage record shows he was married to Elizabeth Price in 1818 at Aston Juxta, Birmingham, Warwick. Parents names were not on marrige record. I don't know if he was born there though. Samuel and Elizabeth were living in Bridgnorth, Shropshire when they started their family. Would appreciate some help as I'm totally stuck.

Do you know when he died?

Wondering if he was on a census to give place of birth - or county if he was around in 1841.

How confident are you that you have the correct marriage?
I notice Elizabeth appears to be widowed in 1841 & 1851 states she's born Herefordshire.

Hi
Looking at the records of St Peter and Pauls Aston there are three  other Barratts /Barretts marrying there Henry born c 1790  widower   30.4.1826  to Mary Ann Butler  ,William born 1798  in 25.9.1825 to Mary Ann Crochett  and Susannah 17.9.1816 to Francis Payne .
If they were all siblings then this may be the family at Stockton near Bridgnorth children of Thomas and Hannah
Samuel  23.8.1787/9 Sep 1787
Joseph 16/20 Feb 1790
Benjamin 10 /24 July 1791
Susanna 3.9.1792/9th Sep
Henry 2.4.1794

Could that be your family?
There's Thomas Barrett buried at Stockton but of Wolverhampton age 79 6.12.1832 so they did go over there.
Henry of Stockton had married at Madeley 9.3.1820 to a Mary Hill so so far it sort of  fits.

Yes as Jim says,  Elizabeth is with Son William and Family in 1841 Census.
She is born c 1794 Kington, Herefordshire

Possible;
Elizabeth PRICE christened 27 Jan 1793, Huntington near Kington*, Herefordshire
Parents EDMOND/ELIZABETH
(Familysearch.Org)
Several other children have Parents as Edward/Elizabeth;
Thomas 1787
Edward 1788
William Thomas 1793
John 1796
James 1797
(may be others I just had a quick look)

Samuel/Elizabeth last Son Benjamin was christened 1 Feb 1835 so Samuel likely died between then and 1841 Census.

1841 we have;
Elizabeth Barrott, 40, Housewife
William Barrott, 18, Grocer
Eliza Barrott, 14, Dressmaker
Thomas Barrott, 9
Benjamin Barrott, 6

1851 Anc has them as Barrell

Thanks for the response. Have been looking for birth record of Samuel with some of the info you have given and still having no luck. Some of the census records I do have. Still trying to find his death record as well. Hard man to track down. I live in Australia so rely on online records for England. If anyone can help with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shally,
I am in Australia also so only rely on on-line records.

The info Ciderfrinker gave you is from Parish Records he has access too.

I have checked FreeBMD for death regs for Samuel Sept 1837-Dec 1841 on FreeBMD in the Shropshire area.
Also cross-referenced with the new GRO Index which has ages.
(also used soundex option for Barratt/Barrett/Barret etc)

I am confident that Samuel must have died between 1834ish (when Elizabeth would be pregnant with Benjamin) and the start of civil reg of of deaths Sept 1837.

This is all presuming Elizabeth was a Widow in 1841 Census!

I've found the christening records for Samuel and Elizabeth's sons Thomas and Benjamin. Although Thomas was born in 1832, he and Benjamin were both christened at the same time on 1 Feb 1835. Samuel the father was listed as being a publican so I'm presuming he was still alive at that time. I still can't find a death record for Samuel though.
