Cornelius Mulder/Maulder
« on: Sunday 08 October 17 08:05 BST (UK) »
Hi, This man was born around 1772 apparently attached to St Lawrence Church in Thanet. He married Ann Beerling in 1799 - June 9th in the same church.  I want to find who his parents were. Can anyone look up St Lawrence marriage register and see if his parents were written down there.  Many thanks

Thanks Rosie. He died in 1803 - I wonder if the death certificate would give more information. Do you know where I can see that? He is buried at St Lawrence Church graveyard as far as I know.

There will not be a death certificate, registration did not start until 1837.
St Lawrence burial register has
3 March 1803 - Cornelius Mulder - Age 31 -Decay - NG (not sure what NG is, possibly location in graveyard  :-\ )

Thank you very much Rosie. I wonder how one can be decayed at 31 years? Yes maybe NG is "new ground" or "north ground".  Thanks

This surname doesn't seem to feature in baptisms in Kent around the relevant timeframe.

As has been said, they married by Licence and don't know if tracing that would yield any clues to his origins.

The fact that he was resident in the parish when he married doesn't mean he originated there, just he was a resident there at the time, and he could have originated anywhere.   Looking at some online trees suggests the name could be Dutch.

There is a record on FindMyPast for a cornelius malder who was a pow from the napoleonic war. I agree, he could possibly be dutch. Oddly enough, there is also a plw with the same name from ww2. He was dutch
